Good Buddies and Bumblebees

Is October really over?! It flew by, partly due to the fact that we've been so (enjoyably) busy with many special visitors making their way to Plymouth every weekend this month. We're lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives who want to meet Kendall and visit all of us. October or otherwise, our door is always open, family and friends!

Michael's good buddy from college and ΣΑΕ, Jesse, and his beautiful family came up from Iowa for the weekend. All of the kiddos sure have grown since our last visit. Katelyn is getting so accustomed to visitors that she woke up on Saturday saying, "Who is here to 'bisit'? I hear friends!" She was understandably excited to find out Peyton and Calvin were finally here!

By mid-morning, the Barney dance party ensued... the first of many over the weekend.

And, seriously, why not a group hug?

Brooke and Jesse welcomed the chance to hold a new baby. Kendall was so content with both of them.

The little girls got to snuggle her too. You can tell they've got the big sister thing down pat!

Bzzzzz!! Roaaaarrrr! Unbeknownst to us, both girls are dressing as bumblebees for Halloween! It was a fun discovery and the girls loved matching. I think the dads were most excited about the colors ;) And check out that little tiger - what a cutie!!

"Oh my gosh, we love our costumes!!! Yay for bumblebees!" I think the girls were singing and dancing in this picture. They had so much fun together and got along famously.

We went to the Fall Festival in Maple Grove for trick-or-treating at the shops on Main Street. The kids got several pieces of candy (and a toothbrush from a dentist's office :) in their buckets. Katelyn was most excited about a mini-tootsie roll pop!

It was a chilly day (especially in the shade), so we made stops up and down the block and then headed home for a pizza lunch and naps. Daddy's little bumblebee...

Kendall is getting so expressive - I've really noticed it within the last few weeks. She loves to be talked to, smiled at, and tickled. She and Brooke snuggled together on the couch for much of the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the dads were doing this...

Yep, your eyes do not deceive. They're drinking beer. On the play set. It's the new way to tailgate.

The kids and dads played outside for 2.5 hours in the 40-something degree weather. They played "good guys/bad guys" (aka tag), sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and spent time on the play set. They all loved it!

Jesse and Kendall...

The kids obviously worked up an appetite from all the running around, so it was dinnertime. Jesse said the girls are wearing their Steve Jobs-inspired black turtlenecks ;)

The kids all took a bath together and then conked out. Then the adults enjoyed our own dinner with drinks and great conversation. We all love spending time with the kids, but man, there's something so nice about getting to connect and catch up without the crazy chaos ;)

Sunday morning brought more fun with the girls (and Calvin, but I didn't catch any pics of him).

And, of course, another dance party to bid farewell to our friends...

It was such a great visit with great friends! Jesse, Brooke, Michael, and I went to house parties together in college, camping trips together post-college, and now we're fortunate enough to be raising our families together - the fun sure does continue through all of life's stages. And we're thankful for that!

So fun!!! Those matching bumble bee costumes are too cute. You can tell Katelyn was LOVING IT!!! And I loved the beer drinking on the play set...I thought it was the deck at first...and then I looked closer. Great memories somehow always involve beer :-)
