Rainy Day Fun + Weekend Recap

A cold, rainy day calls for cookies, don't you think? We sure do! We left the house for music class on Monday morning, but we stayed in the rest of the day and it was nice to relax and settle in.

Cookie baking requires (hair-net) hoods...

Katelyn was excited about the cookies, in case you can't tell :)

I have to admit, she completely surprised me... we topped the cookies with Katelyn's favorite: M&M's. The bowl of M&M's sat right in front of her on the counter as we waited patiently for the cookies to bake. In anticipation of her wanting to sneak a few, I said "these M&M's are for the cookies, so we will save them to put on top." She understood and kept pointing to the bowl saying, "These are for cookies on top, Mommy." (Apparently she thought I might be tempted too - smart girl ;) For the record, she didn't sneak a single one - pretty impressive for a toddler!

It was a fun little exercise in color recognition as we topped the cookies with M&M's. I'd ask for a couple specific colors and my little helper placed them in my palm ever so willingly (I think just getting to handle the beloved M&M's was a reward to her ;)

And now for the quality control part... since we don't eat much for sweets around here, Katelyn enjoyed a (half) cookie with milk and was pleased as punch with the outcome. Definitely proved to be a good way to cozy up on a cold day!

Then it was time to play a game of "shirts and skins" indoor soccer (quite obviously I was shirts and Katelyn was skins). She even scored a few goals!

Over the weekend, Katelyn kept calling this ball a "basketball," but now she's well aware of it being a soccer ball. She's been asking several times a day, "Where'd soccer ball go?"

And why not have a seat in the goal box? She kept climbing in with the ball announcing, "Kate and ball both inside!"

Prior to our cookie-baking, soccer-playing day, we had a fantastic weekend with Papa and Gramma Kathy in town for a visit (Michael was in Florida for work Friday-Sunday, so it was great to have visitors). Katelyn had a ball, as always. Here are some photos. Enjoy!

A wonderful weekend with lots of laughs, smiles, songs (Twinkle Twinkle and the ABC's were performed at least 20 times), and memories!

Katelyn, Great job on the cookies! I think you need to give Gramma some lessons on self-control!! We had so much fun at your house playing soccer, reading, swinging and listening to you sing, chatter and giggle. Thanks, Sweetie!
