2-Year Stats and Silly Stories

Katelyn had her 2-year wellness visit at the doctor last week. She (amazingly) enjoys going to the doctor and was looking forward to it all day. She loves to play doctor at home with her new doctor kit, so maybe that's why she has such fond feelings of the experience!

Her stats at 2 years are...

Height: 34 1/4" (75%)

Weight: 28 lbs. (75%)

Head circumference: 19 1/2

Katelyn also had fun showing off to Dr. Tammy by naming 6 colors, identifying various animals, and counting from 1 all the way up to 13!

I've been keeping a scratch sheet of paper with all the funny things Katelyn has been rattling off lately, so if you want a peek into our conversations these days, here you go!

Me: "Did you have a good day today?"

Katelyn: "I sure did!"

To Michael after she joined us in bed one Saturday morning: "Goo mownin' Daddy! Time to wake up, boy!"

Me: "How old are you?"

Katelyn: "I two. I big and strong!"

One day we went to story time at Barnes and Noble. Kate spotted a book from across the store and started firmly saying, "No, David, no!" It turns out they've been reading a book at school called "No, David!" about a little boy who gets in all kinds of trouble. 

Me: "Katelyn, what kind of rules does David break?"

Katelyn: "No, David, no! He eat cookies." (He gets into the cookie jar without permission.)

There are a couple tunnels around the metro area that we've driven through on occasion. But lately, whenever we drive under an overpass (of any kind), Katelyn announces, "Tunnel!!" followed promptly with, "Moe tunnels? Have to wait and see." (Can you tell she's picked up on our response?!)

Katelyn is a quite the vocalist these days. She sings all kinds of songs and loves to hum too (usually to the tune of Frere Jacques). In music class, we talk about fast and slow tempos. Katelyn enjoys applying this concept to her tunes and will say, "Mommy, sing fast?" or "Sing slow?" and we'll sing various songs fast, slow, quiet, and loud (anything from Barney's "I Love You" song to "Happy Birthday".)

Whenever a purse or bag is in sight, Katelyn will put it on her shoulder. Lately, the exchange sounds like one of these:

Katelyn: "Buh-bye, Mommy!"

Me: "Bye-bye. Where are you going?"

Katelyn: "I going to church."

Me: "Okay. What will you do at church?"

Katelyn: "Sing songs, say Amen."

Katelyn: "Buh-bye, Mommy!"

Me: "Bye-bye. Where are you going?"

Katelyn: "I going shopping, Mommy."

Me: "Oh, which store are you going to?"

Katelyn: "Taw-get" (naturally ;)

Miss Independent definitely likes to do things on her own. When she wants to, she either says, "Kate dood it" or "My dood it." When she wants help, the request is: "Mommy/Daddy dood it?"

This was a conversation that took place this afternoon...

Me: "Katelyn, it's time to go. Do you want to come with mommy and daddy to the store?"

Katelyn: "No, inna stay home."

Me: "Why do you want to stay home?"

Katelyn: "Imma watch basketball on TV." (Papa would be so proud!!)
