Catching Up

Rewinding a bit here but wanted to include some recent photos and stories from life at the Mlakar house lately. Here goes...

Back in the beginning of April, Kendall took her first stroll sitting upright like a big girl. She loved it! She was wide-eyed the whole time taking in the new view. We thought this day was the start of Spring. Umm, well, three snowstorms and over 15 inches of snow later, we were sorely mistaken.

Several weeks ago, we got a new storage ottoman delivered for our living room. The large box it came in was re-purposed as Katelyn and Kendall's house. Kate spent a long time decorating it with markers, crayons, chalk, and stickers. I cut windows in each side to peek through.

The girls sure have had a lot of visitors at their house - deliveries from UPS, Pizza Hut, Jimmy John's, and Girl Scouts.

I've lost track of the hours spent in this thing! It has served as a fabulous indoor activity as we watched the snow fall outside (on multiple occasions!)

Another one of our favorite indoor activities is visiting the Children's Museum in St. Paul. So much to discover here and I always wonder who's more into it - Katelyn or Dad? ;)

Kendall still rides along happily in the Ergobaby. As comfortable as it is, there's just no way to haul around 20 (or so) pounds of love for a couple hours without some back-achin' the next day!

Daddy and Katelyn took a ride in the city bus at the museum too. As always, it was a fun morning out!

Michael and I have each had some fun adventures lately. Last month, my dear friend Katie got engaged! She was the maid of honor in our wedding, for anyone who might recall. A couple Fridays ago, she planned a night out for a few friends to celebrate the news. To avoid the hassle and logistics of parking and meeting for dinner downtown, she said her fiancé agreed to chauffeur us girls. Sounded like a plan to me - I did not expect anything out of the ordinary. So, imagine my surprise when a limousine pulled up and out emerged Katie with this message...

We drove around Minneapolis until it was time for our dinner reservation. The night was tons of fun toasting the bride-to-be and celebrating long-lasting friendships. The whole evening was a blast! Katelyn had never seen a limo before, so the next day she kept asking about the "loooong black car!"

I pray that Katelyn and Kendall experience rich, rewarding friendships like I've been fortunate enough to have.

Michael has had some fun of his own - in the form of a trip to Long Beach, California. It was a work trip, but it included hefty doses of fun, too...

He attended an Indy car race, enjoyed lots of good food, and the best treat of all... abundant doses of Vitamin D! Ahhh, the sunshine!

Meanwhile, the girls and I were holding down the fort at home in the middle of another winter storm (with the help of Gramma Kathy and Papa, who came to visit while Michael was gone.)

We ventured out the day after the storm to Sky Zone - an indoor trampoline park. Ever tried to photograph someone constantly bouncing up and down? Doesn't work too well - especially with a camera phone. Here is one of the only photo winners, thanks to a rare still moment...

Kate had to take a rest on Papa's lap for a bit. She kept saying, "I'm just takin' a break."

We attempted to enjoy the sunshine, like Michael, although we were much more bundled up!

After our walk, Katelyn rode her bike for a bit and then went sledding on the hill in our backyard. Hmm, biking and sledding don't often happen on the same day; and the sledding part should never, ever rarely happens in late April!

Fun, friends, snow, sunshine, and a good ol' cardboard box pretty much sums it all up! Thanks for coming along as we caught up on what's been going on for the last few weeks.
